  Chivalry - Dead or Alive?

  I went out with a gentleman this evening who was standing at my door when I came out, walked me to his car, opened the car door, and advised that he would be opening all doors for the rest of the evening. His courtesy and valor were outstanding, and I felt...valued and protected, such as a rare precious stone. Being Miss Independent Woman, I had gotten so use to doing everthing on my own that I'd forgotten chivalry ever existed. I've never been the type to be SO independent that I reject chivalrous acts, but I've always been independent enough not to rely solely on those acts. If a gentleman ever made attempts to open a door, I'd allow it, and thank him with each opened door. However if no such attempts were made, I'd do so myself and go on my merry little way.

  In this the 21st century, the most common referece to chivalry is that it's dead, but I challenge that the concept is unique to each who uphold its principles.So I ask, is chivalry alive within you? What does it mean? And how is it shown?

      Ernest Ledbetter III Chivalry is not dead; it's just not in demand. Men will on treat you in a way depending on the standards that you demand to be respected due to the boundaries that you set as a woman. The man is the pursuer; he should be trying to satisfy you by the means in which you wish. If you don't have demands and standards for yourself (women in general) how can a man treat as a queen if you don't present yourself as needing that type of treatment. There is a wave of independence going around and due to the laws of independence chivalry is not demanded because people (women in particular) have the dyer need to prove that the man is not a necessity. Chivalry can only exist when the man is raised in it or the woman upholds the need for it.

      No, seriously, you inherited a great deal of your independence from at least 2 generations. But take it from ME, chivalry AIN'T dead (sometimes, lies dormant for a few days) and it is appreciated.

      Sir I think it's still alive QP, dormant maybe, but certainly not dead.
      
      I actually went out on a date with a beautiful young lady I met a few weeks ago at a party. I pulled up, called to let her know I was outside, and waited for her to come out so that I could get all the doors. This happened on our second date as well, even though it was on one of those 1 degree days with the -17 windchill. It funny, becasue when I tried to get the car door for her as we were leaving the restaurant she shouted "Ok Sir, I believe you" as she ran to the car and opened her own door becasue it was so cold outside. Once I was inside the car, she explained that she believed that I was a gentleman and that my mom "had raised me right" but that it was just too cold for all of that. I couldn't help but to chuckle becasue I instantly thought of that part in the last James Bond Movie when the woman was complementing him on his nice suit and shirt to which .007 replied in a playfully arrogant tone "You noticed." Classic!
      
      I think what needs to happen for chivalry to wake back up is "The Death of the Cool" Folks are too busy trying to be cool and ingnoring the basics from Courting 101. My brothers relationships shall perish for lack of knowledge.
